The fonds consists of records generated by the Department of Soil Science in the course of its administrative and academic activities, and by Dr. Rowles relating to his academic, professional and personal activities. They contain information regarding the administration of the Department; courses offered by the Department; committees with which Dr. Rowles was involved, in particular those which he chaired; his extension courses, workshops, lectures, and other outside activities; and some personal correspondence. Fonds contains minutes, correspondence and reports relating to non-University organizations with which Rowles worked including the Soil Science Advisory Committee, the British Columbia Soil Science Lead Committee, the Agricultural Rehabilitation and Development Act Committees, the British Columbia Agricultural Services Co-ordinating Committee, the British Columbia Land Resources Committee, B.C. Lime Committee and the National Soil Survey.

Rowles, Charles A., 1915-

Charles A. Rowles earned his B.S.A. and M.Sc. from the University of Saskatchewan, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He joined UBC's Department of Agronomy in 1946 as Associate Professor of Soils, after working as an instructor at the University of Saskatchewan and as Associate Professor at Ontario Agricultural College.
